UP Childhood friends from Essex, Martin and Rob’s love of Japanese pop culture, 90s nostalgia and electronic music forms the basis of their sound. Featuring elements of dance music, indie vocal stylings and vibrant production, UP’s music drifts between upbeat pop and broad cinematic soundscapes. They have been championed by BBC Introducing including a live set at BBC Suffolk studios and are looking forward to showcasing new material at this event. Their latest release “Waiting For You” is a love letter to 90s dance music, with a video capturing the nostalgia of late night MTV.
FREYA ROY A self-produced solo artist and jazz guitarist with the vision to change the perception of women in music, representing a minority and breaking the gender stereotype. She is described by Blues Matters Magazine as “a talented young performer making a lot of people sit up”, combining a jazz-driven neo-soul and R&B sound with elements of old school hip-hop and electronic-pop. Roy is a one-woman band live; utilizing loops, samples and FX, creating unforgettable elements of surprise and intimacy.
FJORTEN Already having a couple of albums under his belt as The Decibel Kid, this pseudonym represents a change in direction to a much more ambient sound. He collects recordings of everyday environments; snippets of conversations, the hum of a busy street at night, the echoes of footsteps in a busy shopping centre. These are played back alongside slow drums, moody basslines, filtered synths and orchestral swells. His set will be partially improvised combining new material with selections from his first two EPs - “zero”, released Dec 2017 and “one” released June 2018.
