Leon O’Leary is an indie/alternative singer-songwriter from Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk, England. Influenced by artists and bands such as, Sam Fender, Ben Howard, James Bay and Bruce Springsteen, O’Leary implements roots of folk with ethereal soundscapes, shimmering guitars and the electric energy of rock to create the melancholic sound discovered within his music. Backed by BBC Introducing East, Leon has performed live radio sets including backstage at Latitude and has received their title ‘Track of the Week’ for self-produced single ‘Stray Dogs’. Taking to the stage with his sister, Issy O’Leary, who reinforces the sound with soulful guitar and haunting harmonies, Leon has featured at venues and festivals such as The Norwich Arts Centre, The Portland Arms, The Waterfront Studio, Latitude Festival, Bardfest, Ipswich Sound City, Wild Paths and The Apex. O’Leary has also been listed as a HOT VOX Future Icon and has been nominated for an NMG award.
‘Caring and alive with surreal lyrical executions, Leon’s brand of bluesy intermissions, catapults embattled subjects of a life, into clarity and emotive experiences.’ – ComeHereFloyd
‘An early afternoon in the slight damp setting did not distract from the wonderful sonance of Leon’s songs. ‘Stray Dogs’ for example has a gleam of indie delight that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Ben Howard LP.’ – Outline Magazine (Live at Wild Gardens)
‘There was a lovely filmic quality to O'Leary's set. Reminiscent of Damien Rice at times, it was a solid performance, with haunting melodies, distinctive vocals and strong harmonies with his sister Issy.’ - Norwich Evening News (Live at Norwich Waterfront Studio).
‘This Suffolk indie-folk singer-songwriter has a nice eclectic sense of space and musical style…moving, moody and wonderfully engaging.’ – Independent Music Reviews
