SARPA SALPA + Salvador + Surge
7.30pm Saturday 2nd November – The Smokehouse, South Street Studios, 6 South Street, Ipswich
Alt-pop quartet Sarpa Salpa head to The Smokehouse for a headline show this November as part of their UK tour.
Sarpa Salpa are a 4-piece alt-pop band from Northampton.
Since their formation George (Guitar), Marcus (Vox / Guitar), Ethan (Bass) & Charlie (Drums) have beenmaking a lot of noise honing their live show. Taking influences from Foals, Tame Impala & Friendly Fires, Sarpa Salpa strive to create upbeat, danceable tracks with unexpected changes and hidden meanings.
The band headed into 2019 as ones to watch following a hectic year playing over 60 shows with 20 UK Festivals including The Big Feastival, Wilkestock, BBC Introducing Live & BLOGTOBER Festival all whilst still working their day jobs.
In October 2018 the band released their single SMITH on digital and 7” vinyl format, picking up favourable reviews and gaining airplay on regional BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio & BBC Radio 6 Music, sparking the interest and radio plays from both Steve Lamacq & Chris Hawkins.
Keen to capitalise on the groundwork created by SMITH and relentless gigging, the band kicked off 2019 with the release of “CASANOVA” in February. During the same week the band performed at Bedford Esquires as part of Independent Venue Week. Steve Lamacq attended the gig and subsequently played new single “CASANOVA” several times on his show on BBC 6 Music as well as interviewing the band on air, comparing the bands intense live show to a “young Catfish & the Bottlemen”.
A month later “CASANOVA” gained further recognition as BBC Radio 1 and made the track their BBC Introducing ‘Single of the Week’, an achievement relatively unheard of for unsigned bands. Sparking plays and positive feedback from the likes of Greg James, Matt Edmundson & Clara Amfo among others as well as bringing a whole new audience to the band. The band followed this up with packed out headline shows in April at Camden Assembly and Northampton’s 750 capacity Roadmender.
Returning to the studio in spring, Sarpa Salpa set about recording their new single “BEFORE IT GOES DARK” one of the bands darker tracks to date which was released in August which has picked up numerous airplay on Radio 1 (Jack Saunders) BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq / Chris Hawkins) & Radio X (John Kennedy)
SALVADOR
Four Suffolk school boys came together through their love of indie and rock music. The 4 piece band comprising of Lucas / Jan / Jude & Felix, recorded their debut EP in the summer of 2018 at Decoy Studios in Suffolk, the base of world-renowned mixer, Cenzo Townshend.
The band have been building their following, performing at local venues (Bury St Edmunds’ The Apex and The Hunter Club, Ipswich’s The Smokehouse) and being played on local radio (BBC Music Introducing in Suffolk, Cambridge 105 Radio) over the past year.
This March they broke onto the music scene with the release of their debut EP and a sell-out headline show in their hometown of Framlingham coming to the attention of the towns other famous musician the one and only Mr Ed Sheeran. Ed kindly invited the lads to opening up for him at his next local show which happened to be who his massive homecoming shows at Chantry Park which saw the band playing in front of over 45,000 people. This is the band’s first return to Ipswich since those huge dates in the summer so we expect they picked up a few new fans along the way!
